ANNOUNCEMENT
The 9 th Perpendicular Magnetic Recording Conference (PMRC 2010) will be held at the Sendai Excel Hotel Tokyu
located in downtown Sendai, Japan from May 17 through 19, 2010. PMRC conferences dealing with all aspects of
perpendicular magnetic recording have been held every three years since 1989. All colleagues interested in recent and
future developments in perpendicular magnetic recording and high-density storage technologies are invited to attend
and to submit contributions to the technical sessions.
SCOPE
Perpendicular magnetic recording was introduced into commercial hard disk drives in 2005.Emerging applications of HDDs are demanding rapid increases in storage capacity and areal density. The 9th Perpendicular Magnetic Recording Conference is aimed at discussing a broad range of topics related to the extension of ultrahigh areal density perpendicular magnetic recording and all related high-density storage technologies. This PMRC 2010 conference is sponsored by the Japan Society of the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Committee 144.
Perpendicular magnetic recording was introduced into commercial hard disk drives in 2005, and is now finding broad
application in information storage technology. The emerging applications of HDDs are demanding rapid increases in
storage capacity and areal density. Now is an appropriate time to summarize at the conference the research and
development, and to generalize the lessons learned for future continuous evolution. The 9 th Perpendicular Magnetic
Recording Conference is aimed at discussing topics related to the extension of ultrahigh areal density perpendicular
magnetic recording and all related high-density storage technologies. At PMRC 2010, topics that contribute to the
future progress of perpendicular magnetic recording and high-density storage technologies will be discussed. Papers
falling into the following categories are welcome.
CATEGORIES
- Recording physics/characteristics, modeling, simulations
- Magnetic write heads and soft magnetic materials
- Magnetic read heads and sensors
- Recording media and materials, microstructure, magnetic imaging
- Signal processing
- HDI, tribology and low spacing technologies
- Storage systems
- New storage technologies
DIGESTS
Digests should be prepared in English on a maximum of two pages. All information necessary for judging the
scientific quality of the paper must be included. The PMRC 2010 Program Committee highly recommends that
individual digests include figures. Details of the digest format and instructions on the submission process are
provided at the conference web site:
Digests must be sent by e-mail to the program committee, and received no later than February 26, 2010.
Submissions by fax will not be accepted. Please send a PDF or MS Word file of the digest to the following e-mail
address:
Submitted digests will be reviewed to judge the quality of the presentation. Notice of acceptance/rejection will be
sent by e-mail to the corresponding author three weeks after the deadline. The accepted digests will appear in the
Digests of PMRC 2010, which will be distributed to all participants at the Conference.
PROGRAM BOOKLET
The PMRC 2010 Program will be uploaded to the Conference web site in March 2010. Authors and other prospective
participants who would like the Program Booklet will be able to download an electronic copy from the PMRC
web-site. Major information on travel, accommodation, and social activities will be included in the Program Booklet.
CONFERENCE SITE
The conference site for PMRC 2010, Sendai Excel Hotel Tokyu, is located in downtown Sendai. Detailed information
on the venue can be found at the web site:
REGISTRATION and ACCOMMODATION
Participants are recommended to make an advance registration to take advantage of the discounted registration fee.
Advance registration closes on April 23, 2010. Onsite registration is also possible. The registration fee includes
charges for the 'Conference Digest' at the conference site, and the 'Conference Proceedings' that will be distributed
later on.
